So this review reflects an incident that happened. It was sometime ago but it needs to be conveyed. The place had great atmosphere and the food was good. What happened was a accident but how it was was handled was disappointing... very. As may wife was eating her salad she found she actually started chewing on a strip of plastic that was in the salad. It seemed to be the section torn off of bagged salads. We mentioned it and the waiter he said he would let "them" know. While we were there it seemed it was being ignored. We finished our maincourse and while we were waiting for the check someone else came to the table and he asked "how the food was" . We reponded it was very good. They responded (and I swear this) "At least there was not plastic in it" and he walked away. My wife and I just looked at each other. Nothing else was said. We were not refunded the salad in fact they charged for everything and offered no apology. This could have been serious and it could have been reported, it should have. It was a cowardly and flippant approach to avoid accountability. So we will not go back nor do I think they really care. Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

The Mill Raleigh was an outstanding dining experience and one I’d happily return to. The atmosphere leans heavily toward a modern pub, with a large, lively bar serving as the centerpiece of the restaurant. While I no longer drink, that didn’t take away from the experience at all. Tucked away from the bar is a cozy, intimate dining area that makes for a relaxed and comfortable meal. The menu is relatively small, but that’s often a sign that a kitchen focuses on doing a handful of dishes exceptionally well rather than offering endless options. Honestly, there wasn’t a single item that didn’t sound tempting. I started with the Wood Grilled Sourdough, served with a smoked gouda and pepper jelly spread. The bread had an incredible crust with a smoky, wood-fired flavor, while the spread was creamy, slightly sweet, and just the right amount of savory. It was the perfect way to begin the meal, and I found myself wishing there had been even more of it. For my entrée, I ordered the Herb-Crusted Verlasso Salmon, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The salmon was beautifully cooked—crispy and flavorful on the outside while remaining moist and flaky in the center. It was served over perfectly roasted fingerling potatoes and caramelized fennel hash, all brought together with a rich yellow tomato butter that complemented the fish without overpowering it. Every bite was balanced, fresh, and expertly prepared. The service was equally impressive. My server was friendly, attentive, and struck the perfect balance of checking in without ever feeling intrusive. My tea was kept full throughout the meal, and the overall pace of service was excellent. At just under $46 before tip for a starter, entrée, and drink, I felt the quality easily justified the price. If you’re looking for a place that combines elevated pub-style dining with a warm atmosphere and genuinely excellent food, The Mill Raleigh is absolutely worth a visit. Whether you’re stopping in for drinks with friends or, like me, simply looking for an exceptional meal, you won’t be disappointed.
