What a wonderful place. We were going to go to a nearby food court for ease but I did a simple Google search and we decided to take a chance and find this restaurant in the back streets. We arrived and thought what have we done. It was tucked away and looked almost closed but we went through a bulldog curtain and slid open the door into a wonderful little space. At first there was just one westerner and a Japanese couple but soon more people arrived and it filled nicely. Just enough for the lovely couple who run the place to cope with. The man took our order and explained a couple of things from the small English translated menu. We chose a good variety of things and plum wine. Wow, wow, wow!! We had a lovely selection of small starters then some beautiful raw fish and finally the traditional Okonomiyaki cooked right at our table by a lovely lady! They were so hospitable and I believe the man was an expert on shochu and had a huge display of bottles. What a wonderful experience. It came to £25 including everything for the two of us. Great value. We were very full! I should warn you take shoes off before entering. We loved it!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Ordered the vegetable platter, okonomiyaki, monjayaki and also karaage (not in picture). All of the food was so good!! It all went really well with the beer we ordered. For someone like me who don't even enjoy seafood, I thoroughly enjoyed even the fried fish and tuna cubes with shio kombu (I think?) in the vegetable platter. All the vegetablez were really fresh too! Overall we both really enjoyed the entire experience that we had there, and the elderly couple was really friendly to us even though we were foreigners. As it is an izakaya, do take note that at least 1 drink must be ordered per pax. Card was accepted also. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

we visited yoshikatsu on a quieter day and were the only guests at 10pm, which is the time of their last order (they close at 11pm). we were welcomed by the owner and chef who, despite the time, greeted us warmly. while we had some reservations about the quietness that day, the food quickly wiped that away - custard smooth tamago with a hint of smokiness; fresh and crunchy monjayaki you can grill yourself on the stove; delicious okonomiyaki topped with the owner's homemade mayonnaise which was rich and smooth; fresh juicy tofu; and perfectly seasoned chicken karaage that wasn't too greasy. washed down with a side of japanese alcohol, this was the perfect supper to end our day. truly a hidden gem - mouthwatering, hearty japanese food in a quiet and lovely atmosphere. the language barrier did not prove an issue as there were english menus available. a short walk away from oshiage skytree station - would certainly revisit this place!
