We tried the tasting experience. All the dishes were fancy and pretty. The liquid salad and dessert were OK, though my wife thought the salad was a little too acidic. The foie grass was capped with a Red Bull gelatin. Unique, yes. Balanced flavor, no. The gelatin was bitter and off tasting and did nothing to enhance the mousse. The Cuy was presented 3 ways: fried, empanada and a ravioli. The latter 2 were ok, but the fried rodent thigh was very heavily salted. Almost inedible. Also, the meat was overcooked, to the point of being mushy. The lamb course was also overcooked, and the chunks long and stringy. I couldn't cut them with the provided knife. Several other courses were over salted. Our servers were cheerful and friendly, though the sommelier snubbed us when we asked for help after learning our wine choice was not available. He did have our server recommend a decent Albarino though. The bonus was that both of us had lower GI tract issues that night. We were traveling the next day. That was fun. Hence the one star rating. There are many better restaurants in town, such as Quitu, where we had a great lunch. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2

One of the best dining experiences in Quito, and I have eaten here more times than I can count after returning clients from the Galapagos. Zazu manages to be both sophisticated and genuinely Ecuadorian. The tasting menu leans on local ingredients without turning them into a novelty. Service is attentive and the wine list is solid. My only small note: the noise level can get high on busy evenings, which makes conversation difficult. But the food more than compensates. If you are in Quito before or after an expedition, this is where to go. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
