Refined Omakase Experience with Exceptional Attention to Detail We visited Zen Japanese Restaurant (listed in the Michelin Guide 2025) as a group of six and opted for the Omakase experience — and overall, it was outstanding. The Experience. We were seated at the counter, which is great for watching the chefs at work, but with a group of six, it made conversation a bit difficult. Thankfully, we were positioned around a corner, which helped a bit. Partway through the experience, we were asked to move to a table in the back before the Omakase concluded. We weren’t aware of any time restriction beforehand, so that caught us off guard. That said, the table ended up being a better setting for conversation, so it worked out in the end. The Food. The Omakase itself was exquisite. Each course was beautifully prepared, fresh, and thoughtfully presented. The sushi quality was top-tier, and adding the fresh wasabi root elevated everything even further — highly recommended. One small challenge: it was sometimes difficult to follow exactly what each piece was as it was being served. A clearer explanation or reference would have enhanced the experience even more. The dessert was a standout. I’m not typically a melon fan, but the Crown Melon served at the end was incredible — easily one of the best I’ve had. Service & Details. Service was excellent, with a strong focus on attention to detail. One small but thoughtful touch: they provide a box for your belongings (like purses) so they don’t sit on the floor. These kinds of details elevate the overall experience. Location & Value. The location is convenient and outside of downtown, which is a big plus. Parking was a bit tricky, though we visited in winter and snowbanks limited available spots. Pricing felt reasonable for the quality and experience, especially considering its Michelin recognition. Final Verdict:. An elegant, high-quality Omakase experience with excellent service and thoughtful touches throughout. 5 stars — would absolutely return. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CA$100+
