Had the crispy lettuce wraps and crispy pork belly with coconut broth. Out of this world good. It’s always awesome to try a variation of the coconut broth without it tasting so similar to your Thai or Burmese counterparts.
Overall, Bida Manda offered a pleasurable dining experience with good food, creative drinks and friendly service. Here is my breakdown of pros vs. cons:PROS:- Located downtown Raleigh with lots to do.- Atmosphere was fantastic. Low lighting, wooden table tops, trendy decor, not too loud.- Every server and staff member we saw was very personable and professional. We were celebrating my wife’s B-Day and our server wished her a happy birthday and even brought her a complimentary dessert at the end of our meal.- “Old Manhattan” was a delicious twist on two classic drinks.- Papaya Salad tasted fresh and bright. The sweet flavors mixed with a slight hint of spice was perfect.- We really enjoyed the Crispy Lettuce Wraps, however we quickly ran out of lettuce and our server forgot to bring us more.CONS:- There were a few occasions where I found myself having to track down my server. He was very nice, but not as attentive as I’d like.- I ordered their Pud Thai and asked for it to be very spicy. When the food arrived, it had no spice at all. My wife’s Papaya Salad was spicier than my Pud Thai. When I finally flagged down my server, he brought a small dish of sauce that I could add. But after adding the entire dish, it was mild at best.- All of the ingredients of the Pud Thai were cooked correctly, however the sauce was very sweet and the overall flavor profile was definitely “Americanized”. I would not call this authentic Thai food. Not saying it was bad, just not authentic.
It wasn't horrible, but just not my kind of menu. Good exotic drink menu thought
