The Blue Note in Greenwich Village thrives on its big name and outstanding musicians. As a venue, however, the club is an extreme disappointment. The main problem is the cramped space. The tables are so close together that you’re practically shoulder to shoulder with other guests—or more or less sitting on their laps. Despite high cover charges, no specific seats are reserved. Those who arrive one hour before the concert get whatever’s left: a seat on the side, way in the back, or with a limited resp. no view. at all. So for the same price, you get a very inconsistent—and usually miserable—experience. On top of that, there’s a $20 minimum spend, high prices for food and drinks, and, in my opinion, food and drink that fall far short of justifying those prices. The service also seems geared more toward quick turnover and revenue than toward hospitality. Audience: 90 percent tourists. These are precisely the points that run through many reviews here: uncomfortable crowding, no or poor visibility, brusque treatment, high prices, and the feeling of being rushed through as efficiently as possible. The frustrating thing is that world-class musicians are performing on stage. The club itself, however, sometimes treats its guests like cargo: cram as many people in as possible, seat them as close together as possible, and collect the minimum revenue. The Blue Note is a well-known jazz venue. But its fame rests primarily on the artists and its history. That doesn’t make this club a good host by any means. The concert can be great. The Blue Note certainly isn’t. I think that jazz musicians, in particular, shouldn't be indifferent to how their fans—who pay them—are treated by the clubs.

Sooo expensive. I’ve seen the same artists elsewhere for cheaper and without a 20 dollar food and drink minimum!

Well, as Kelly said, I went today to check my statement, and they charged me three - I mean, 3 - yes, 3!!!! times. Not to mention the service, and rudeness that mistreated my lovely wife. What was supposed to be a dream date turned out into a nightmare. The singer was awesome. But, gee, please. Get your act together Blue Note.
