We were able to walk in without a reservation in May, though we did have to wait about ten minutes. The staff were efficient and kind, the food was divine, and the decor was all quite fun. I would make a point to eat here again if I visit Rome again. The best food we had in the city! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The truffle lasagna is amazing! Best tasting meal have had in Rome. The starter with mussels and clams a great dish. Can cater for gluten free but limited. The bus boys too keen to clear tables too fast but all very friendly. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: €20–30

Upon arriving in Rome, two local priests studying in the city brought us to Old Bear, introducing it as a true local favorite. Tucked away near Via dell'Orso ("Bear Street"), a legendary hotspot for food lovers, this place immediately won us over with its charming location, welcoming atmosphere, and phenomenal cuisine. The restaurant embodies the quintessential Roman trattoria vibe, featuring cozy, close-knit tables where you can easily admire what neighboring diners are enjoying. Even the table water, Aqua Orsini, was remarkably crisp and delicious, completely putting to rest any worries about adjusting to local water. The food was nothing short of spectacular. We started with the wild boar ragu pasta, which featured perfectly cooked al dente noodles tossed in a clean, deeply savory sauce. The steamed mussels and Manila clams were equally impressive; given Italy's coastal geography, the seafood was remarkably fresh and tasted divine without needing to rely heavily on garlic. Dipping crusty bread into the rich seafood broth was pure bliss. We also shared a tender cut of steak, a fragrant truffle and mushroom gratin, and a rich, slow-cooked oxtail stew with a sauce so mind-blowingly delicious that we finished two full bottles of wine without even realizing it. To wrap up the feast, we indulged in classic Italian tiramisu and learned a fascinating local secret: authentic, house-made tiramisu at traditional spots is prepared and served in individual cups, whereas neatly pre-sliced portions served on flat plates are often mass-produced factory items. Ending the meal with a warm shot of Grappa, a traditional high-proof Italian digestif, was the grand finale. With its wonderful staff, heartwarming local alleyway charm, and exquisite flavors, Old Bear is an absolute must-visit. An easy 5 stars! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €30–40
