After viewing the Fornasetti objects intermingled in ways made meaningful with Greek and Roman antiquities at the Palazzo Altemps and informed by insightful text panels -happily in English and Italian - on a rainy pre spring Sunday I stepped into Pizza Ciro - my error for the outside today's menu board listed seafood with pasta- and my experience after eating today's menu board special affirmed this is not a seafood pasta establishment: no, it is a pizza place. Albeit steps from Palazzo Altemps, the rain and chill, served as my motivation to enter the first dining choice immediately presented. Reminded of the words to the song, '...you can't always get what you want' , and ordering the special, with a glass of red wine, the disappointment of confronting a bowl of pasta with little or no seafood. The waiter who also served as the front man on the street to urge customers to eat therein he qasked me how my bowl of seafood pasta was: I gave him my reality of finding empty seafood shells, but the pasta did have some flavor. When asked again I reiterated the shells were empty. He told me that the seafood had floated out of the shells after long cooking. I told him no, that the pasta was empty of seafood. Consternation! My comment was taken as a complaint to the chef and to the owner. When I asked for the bill, I was told to wait and a plate with 5 half shells was placed before me- in each half shell a morsel of sea food. Then the bill. The menu board special for the day with a glass of red wine and three slices of crusty Italian bread was 25 euros. Expensive. Best to take time to consider dining options even on a chilly rainy Rome Sunday or to go with the flow - which in this establishment is pizza.
