This is our PLACE. We have celebrated more family milestones here than I can count—anniversaries, birthdays, big accomplishments, and just about everything in between. But we also come in for happy hour for a monthly date night and can have an incredible meal without spending a fortune. Uchi set the bar for everything I look for in an amazing restaurant. The thought that goes into the layers of flavor in the composed dishes genuinely changed the way I look at food and even inspired me to become a better home chef. We are primarily nigiri people, and the quality and consistency of the fish is exceptional, but we always mix in several of the more creative dishes. That balance is one of the things Uchi does better than anywhere else. You can appreciate a beautiful piece of fish for exactly what it is and then have a composed dish that combines flavors and textures in a way you never would have thought of yourself. Over the years, recommendations from the staff have expanded my palate and introduced me to things I probably never would have ordered on my own. But as good as the food is, the service is a huge part of why Uchi has become so special to our family. The staff has always made us feel genuinely cared for rather than simply waited on. We took our kids for dinner on the first day of school one year, and the entire waitstaff signed the inside cover of an Uchi cookbook, wishing them a great school year. It’s a small example, but it captures what makes this place different. After all these years and countless meals, it still feels special every time we walk in. The food is why we first fell in love with Uchi, but the people, the experiences, and all the memories we’ve made here are why it became our place. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Uchi Austin is the perfect blend of upscale dining and an approachable atmosphere. Housed in a charming little home with warm, dim lighting, it creates an intimate ambiance that’s ideal for a special night out. After hearing so many rave reviews, my coworker and I finally decided to give it a try—and it exceeded every expectation. We opted for the Happy Hour Omakase Tasting Menu for Two, a nine-course chef’s selection that took us on an unforgettable culinary journey. Our server, Yume, expertly guided us through each course, explaining every dish and making thoughtful recommendations that elevated the entire experience. The omakase featured an incredible assortment of beautifully prepared nigiri and sashimi, each bite highlighting fresh, high-quality ingredients with carefully balanced flavors. In addition to the tasting menu, we couldn’t resist ordering the Bluefin Toro Nigiri and the Hot Rock Wagyu. The Hot Rock Wagyu is truly a standout. This interactive dish features richly marbled A5 Japanese Wagyu served alongside a searing-hot stone. You briefly sear each slice to your preferred doneness before dipping it into the bright, citrusy ponzu sauce. The result is melt-in-your-mouth perfection—absolutely divine. To complement the meal, we enjoyed two handcrafted cocktails and shared a small unfiltered sake, which paired beautifully with the courses. And of course, we couldn’t stop at just one dessert. The iconic Jasmine Cream is a must-order. Delicate layers of jasmine-infused cream are paired with sweet pineapple, refreshing cilantro granita, and a crisp honey tuile for a dessert that’s light, unique, and incredibly refreshing. We also indulged in the Honey Toast, featuring warm brioche topped with cashew pralines and creamy honey ice cream. It was rich, comforting, and the perfect way to end an exceptional meal. From the impeccable service to the thoughtful presentation and unforgettable flavors, every course at Uchi was executed beautifully. If you’re looking for a memorable Japanese dining experience in Austin, Uchi absolutely lives up to the hype. I’ll definitely be back.
