We had lunch at Sixty Vines Reston on 7/12 with friends and their two daughters (ages 3 and 6). The food was delicious, the server was polite and tried to help, and the atmosphere was great. However, we had a very concerning food safety experience. We ordered two orange juices for the girls. The older one initially said the juice tasted strange, but we trusted the restaurant and assured her it was just orange juice. Both children drank most of it. As we were leaving, their father finished the remaining juice and immediately noticed a strong carbonation sensation, as if it had gone bad. When we asked whether it was really 100% orange juice, our server brought out the container and confirmed that it was. We asked for another sample from that same container, but instead the server returned and told us the juice had spoiled, offering a sample from a different container instead. When we asked to see the original container, we were told the manager had already instructed staff to throw it away. The server later admitted they had tasted the juice, confirmed it had spoiled, and noticed the container was severely swollen from gas buildup before discarding it. The manager only came to speak with us after we specifically asked. She acknowledged that the juice had spoiled and confirmed that she had instructed staff to dispose of it. Our biggest concern is not only that spoiled juice was served to two young children, but also that it was discarded before we had a chance to inspect it, creating the impression that the situation was not handled transparently. That said, I also want to give credit where it is due. Before leaving, we documented the incident by email, and the manager promptly acknowledged the facts, accepted responsibility, and agreed to cover any medical expenses if needed. We later received a sincere apology from the Managing Director, who confirmed they would strengthen their food safety procedures and fully support any necessary follow-up. I appreciate how the restaurant handled the situation afterward, but I remain deeply concerned that spoiled juice was served to two children in the first place and with how the incident was initially handled on site. I hope the restaurant takes food safety much more seriously going forward. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4
