“If you want to test the bartender, you order the Daiquiri,” says Julio Cabrera, of Miami’s Cafe La Trova. Not every bartender can make a good Daiquiri. It looks simple, but it’s not. This refreshing Daiquiri Floridita blend originated from the La Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba, which still attracts a lot of tourists nowadays. Another Name of this drink is the Hemingway Daiquiri, due to the writer Ernest Hemingway, who used to consume plenty of these at Floridita in the 20-s. There’s one secret key element most people overlook while preparing this cocktail — the sweetener. At La Trova restaurant all the syrups in the drinks are supplemented with white sugar to avoid dilution and to attain a fresh, clean flavor. For the refreshingly slushy Daiquiri Floridita, the white rum is mixed with maraschino liqueur, white sugar and lime juice, all blended with crushed ice and served in a large coupe glass.
